The Buffalo Soldiers will return to the Fountain of Youth on Saturday June 13th.
They will be discussing their history dating from 1867 when Congress authorized the formation of three Infantry and two Cavalry Regiments of African-Americans, many of them former Union soldiers, through their service fighting Indians in the Southwest to their participation in the Spanish American War, where they fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, and into the Twentieth Century. They will demonstrate Cavalry skills on horseback including the use of sabers and pistols.
They will spend the night at the SJC Equestrian Center in Hastings and do demonstrations at that facility from 12 to 3pm pm Sunday June 14.
